-34-and miracles. Sheikh Basbar al-Tafaqqi died in al-Wa'r, and his grave is visible. He was of Ja'ali origin, his name was 'Awni, and his mother named him Basbar al-Yusr al-Kamalat. So God made him Basbar, son of religion and the Qur'an, and he memorized the Book under Madanitiyar bin Sheikh Abd al-Rahman. And Ahmad ibn Rur gave him tranquility. He studied the Qur'an in al-Qoz under the sidr trees that are now present. His students numbered a thousand. He followed the path of the Sufis under Sheikh Sharaf al-Din Ragel Anqawi, and many righteous men studied under him, including the two sons of Ray, Hamid al-Sardi, Sheikh Abdullah ibn Abu Roro, and the sons of Sheikh Fayid, and many others. He was among the great saints, who have no fear, nor do they grieve. He fasted all his life, and every night his wife would bring him porridge, which he would dip his fingers in and eat. He closed his mouth until a man came and gave him two dates. He ate them. The man said to his servant, "Look at him." The servant said, "He is eating." The man said, "Look at him, he is not satisfied." The servant said, "I am waiting for them to bring me dinner." Sheikh Idris said, "Sheikh Basbar, when he died, his soul presented the Qur'an to God Almighty." Sheikh Basbar said, "I am holding onto the path, and the reason for this is that Sheikh Hassan, in his youth, went to the doors to visit him. He said to Abd al-Qadir, his son, 'Announce to my brothers and tell them that he has gone to Nasri, I am not able to deal with the people of this world.' Then Sheikh Hassan came with his staff and his soldiers. They said, 'There is no one,' and the people cried out. Sheikh stood and said to them, 'I am holding onto the path.' So he passed by, leaving him a blue cloak and a saffron-dyed garment. He descended into al-Kuliwah with Abdu Bur, and found al-Barnab, the family of the king. They saw him after his death, saying, 'Leave it, you will not give it.' Then a great light came out of his mouth, saying, 'I have the Qur'an, and it has been given to me.' Sheikh Muhammad ibn Hadi, the author of famous works, composed a great elegy for him, mentioning that he was one of his students. He said, 'Ah, Basbar, a sheikh who taught me and my intercessor in the precise Qur'an.' He recounted that Sheikh Basbar married a woman named Hamdiya and divorced her. Then her cousin, Hamdi, married her. Sheikh Abd al-Razzaq Abu Qurun's father advised her against it, but she did not refrain. She said, 'Sheikh, you are enough for me.' He said, 'Do not approach the sea, for the people are like a sea.' It is said that the man did not approach the sea for seven years. Then his wife became pregnant and gave birth. The child was brought to the well near his father. The first time he entered the sea, it swallowed him and carried him away until he died. Then it threw him onto the seashore. Basbar, under the sidr trees, cried out, 'My son Ali has been taken from me.' On that day, a young boy with a mane, his children al-Badawi, Madani, and Abd al-Qadir.
