They were unable to achieve what they hoped for. If this idea came through religion, people would be more enthusiastic, zealous, and hopeful. Thus, they found in the idea of the Mahdi what would fulfill their hopes. Therefore, this idea was prevalent in various religions such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Jews believed in the return of Elijah, and Christians and Muslims believed in the return of Jesus before the Day of Judgment, to fill the earth with justice as it was filled with injustice. Perhaps they symbolized justice with the Messiah and injustice with the Antichrist, and they empowered the Messiah over the Antichrist, killing him, implying that justice will prevail and injustice will die, in accordance with hope.

The second reason is that the world, in the East and the West, is filled with injustice in all ages. People have tried many times to remove injustice from themselves and live a happy life in an environment full of justice, but they have not succeeded. When they failed, they hoped, and their hope was for a just Imam. If he does not come today, he will come tomorrow, and he will fill the earth with justice, and all hopes will be realized through him.

The idea of the Mahdi fulfilled these two purposes. It prevailed more in the East than in the West because the East has greater hope and a greater outlook towards the past and the future, while Westerners are more action-oriented and more focused on reality. They are more realistic than Easterners, and because Easterners
