to another political one that might shake the Sultanate, similar to what happened in past crises where governments in these lands began with preaching and guidance, and ended with war and the Sultan. Accordingly, the government intensified its surveillance of Al-Sanusi, and found that there was no benefit to be gained from his remaining in Fez. This is what the historians have reported about Ibn Al-Sanusi's clash with the authorities, and it is a brief statement that does not elaborate. The truth is that historical sources are silent about many of his affairs during that period. We do not rule out that Ibn Al-Sanusi was invited to work in his court by Moulay Sulaiman, because the ability of Ibn Al-Sanusi, about which we know much from his later affairs, must have become apparent to people, and his fame spread. This might have led to his heart being softened and his safety secured by inviting him to work with him. It is worth noting here that the personality of Ibn Al-Sanusi must have gained more importance and responsibility during his stay in Fez, especially among his Idrisid ancestors and the community of the two tribes who lived under their rule. As for the type of influence, it is likely that it was in terms of his role as a descendant of the Messenger, peace be upon him, to carry out his work to revive the call of Islam in hearts. We infer that the influence was in terms of his right to authority, and you will notice this in his later history, because he was averse to authority and rule. In any case, it is possible that Sultan Sulaiman considered his Idrisid lineage in addition to his work and honor, and feared his rivalry. All of this is speculation and conjecture, because historical evidence is lacking to support it due to the silence of the sources available to us.
Reasons for his departure from Fez Historians link this clash with the authorities to Ibn Al-Sanusi's departure from Fez. They differ in the date of his departure, just as they differed in the date of his arrival in Fez. 1. Shukri, p. 1
