Wricut (Secretary), Church Missionary Society, Uvandal (1) Sedams: It was agreed that the primary object of this Committee should be to make suggestions as to the compilation of suitable text-books. for use in the elementary vernacular schools of the various language groups. The languages concerned are those which will be selected by the Conference as group languages.

A number of text-books already exist as shown in the list of textbooks. The books to be compiled are intended as complementary to these.

(2) Method.

It was suggested that an Education Officer should be responsible: for ensuring the production, at first in English, of text-books for translation into the group languages. The translation would be undertaken by arrangement with various Missionaries in the different groups. Within each group, one Missionary might be selected for each book and the complete series might then be reviewed by all the selected translators of the group. The Committee advised that the printing should be undertaken by the Government printers either at Khartoum or at a local branch in the South. The Committee assumed that one advantage of the Government undertaking the - printing of text-books would be a reduction in cost.

(3) TLeat-books Required. The following books are required for immediate use :— (2) Readers for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th classes of Elementary Vernacular Schools.
