"This is a punishment for the one who is fed. Then he struck him. If I were only striving for the lowest sustenance, a little of my hopes would suffice me.

The minister Abu Bakr said, Abu al-Amas said, "The most beautiful of them is the one who raises his voice and says to his Lord, 'He did not make the speaker responsible, and the estimation is that if I were only striving for the lowest sustenance, a little of the money would suffice me, and I would be content with it and not seek kingship. And if I were seeking and striving for it, it would be a little, and the speech would be corrupt. This is because his saying, 'If I were only striving for the lowest sustenance,' necessitates that he did not strive for it except for what he did not find. So he is denying his striving for sustenance without it. And striving for it necessitates a little money, which is impossible. But we strive for a lasting legacy. And a lasting legacy has been achieved by those like me.

The lasting legacy is that which has an origin, and from it is the saying of Al-A'sha: And I will not be the one who abandaves it, as long as the days are long, and the nights are long.

He means abundance, and the lasting legacy can be abundant. And this verse is weak compared to the first verses.

And a person's wealth, as long as his soul has a breath, Will not be able to escape the calamities, nor will it be able to reach them.

The soul's breath is the remainder of the soul, and calamities are misfortunes. And I have examined them. The Lord said, "The two of them, as long as they are alive, will not achieve what they want, even if they do not fall short in their pursuit and strive." And the like of it: And a need for one who lives, and he does not achieve it, and we go in the morning to achieve it.

And Al-Qutaybi said, the meaning of the verse is that a person will achieve what he wants as long as he lives, even if he strives and does not fall short.

Al-Tawm said, Al-Asma'i said, when the matter of Al-Qubais descended upon Tayy, the wife of a man named Al-Sumayyi... not achieving what he wants and not reaching all of it. The minister Abu Bakr said, Abu Al-Hasan said."
