Muhammad bin Jabir bin Muhammad al-Qaisi al-Wadashi (d. 1348 AH / 749 AD).

This indicates the prevalence of Hadith studies in Tunis and the abundance of its scholars in the seventh century. Al-Abdari mentioned in his travelogue the Hadith scholars he met and learned from during his passage through Tunis. He said: "I met Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Harun al-Ta'i al-Qurtubi, and I read to him some of Al-Muwatta' narrated by Yahya bin Yahya, and I heard from him some of Sahih Muslim. I met Abu Ja'far Ahmad bin Yusuf al-Fahri al-Libli and I sat with him for days. I read to him a good portion of the beginning of Al-Muwatta' narrated by Yahya bin Yahya, and the entire book of Al-Jami' [Sahih al-Bukhari]. I heard from him Al-Bukhari and many parts of Al-Muwatta' and Sahih Muslim (d. 1293 AH / 693 AD). I read to Abu al-Qasim bin Hammad bin Abi Muslim al-Hadrami al-Libidi (d. 1289 AH / 688 AD) Sunan Abi Dawud and Jami' al-Tirmidhi, and many parts of the book of Al-Bukhari. I read to him some of the book of Imam Abu Abdullah al-Mazari. And what he said in another place: 'I met in Tunis the righteous Sheikh, the jurist Abu Ya'qub Yusuf bin Ibrahim bin Ahmad bin 'Uqab al-Jathami. I heard from him Hadiths from Al-Muwatta', from Jami' al-Bukhari, and from Sunan al-Daraqutni.'

He is one of the imams of Hadith in the Maghreb. He was born and raised in Tunis. He had a long journey to the East and to Al-Andalus. Among his teachers in Tunis was Ibn al-Ghammaz, and in Egypt, Ibn al-Dibaj, and a group of others. He has works on Hadith. A knowledgeable Maliki jurist. He was from Valencia. He traveled to Bejaia and took on the positions of judge and preacher there. Then he traveled to Tunis and became the Chief Justice there. He was known for his justice and was loved by the people. He died in Tunis.
