The eleventh chapter of the Book of Daniel is filled with descriptions of long-standing enmities between two entities called the King of the North and another called the King of the South. Reference has already been made to the enmity between them. Many scholars of this chapter have assumed that these two entities are the only warring parties mentioned. However, a comprehensive study of the entire chapter reveals the existence of a third party, namely the king whom we said was not named. To maintain the order of the mentioned parties, we will refer to this third king as the Stubborn King. The descriptions and actions mentioned about this Stubborn King will reveal that he is the ruler of the French state after its famous revolution, meaning Napoleon Bonaparte.

"And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time shall thy people be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book."

The phrase "as he wills" was used three times in this chapter. The first time is in verse 3: "And a mighty king, shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will." This refers to Alexander the Great (323 BC). The second time is in verse 16, referring to Julius Caesar (44 BC): "And he that comes against him shall do according to his will; and none shall stand before him: and he shall stand in the glorious land, by whose power it shall be overthrown." Both Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar conquered the political powers of their time. Both dominated the opposing political forces, seeking to establish their authority. When the Stubborn King acts at the end, according to his will, he must be, like his predecessors, the dominant force that will shape the political scene of his time. And this is precisely what France did.

"And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people."
