It is well established that the Dagu were at one time the predominant race in central Darfur, the earliest known founders of a monarchy there, and that they were supplanted by the Tungur about the sixteenth century-. The coming of the Tungur resulted in the restriction of the Dagu to the districts where they still live.

The main divisions of the Dagu of Darfur are the following: A.
