And this benefit is from the first. Among its benefits is that the two laws [likely referring to two parts of the plant or two uses] prevent looseness of the stomach. Before it is eaten, its clean skin is scraped, then it is made into discs and dried, and they eat them. When its kernel is broken, two types of seeds are found inside, one small and one large. The Arabs take this small seed, dry it in the sun, then grind it with honey, making it delicious, and sell it in Darfur, calling it "Kinawiyuka Akululwi". If chewed with the fruit of the "Farr" [likely a type of fruit or plant], the leaves of the "Karnu" hazelnut, and "Azarddar", its saliva becomes like the "Farr" bird's and it is expelled dead. And the "Talh" tree, which is a large, hollow-trunked tree that grows in the plains. The desert dwellers, when thirst intensifies and the rainy season is over, go to the "Talh" tree and find water collected in its trunk from the dew, and they drink from it and go on their way. This tree has large, elongated fruits like "Arwatat" [likely a type of fruit], with seeds like "Hab al-Ratr" [likely a type of seed], watered with milk. Its color is like the "Hab al-Hurub" [likely a type of seed], but it contains a white flour from which birds are cooked, and it is found to be bitter. Consuming it on an empty stomach stops looseness of the stomach. Its pulp is mixed with flour, making it delicious. And the "Thalub" tree, which is known in Egypt as the Indian fig, but this tree is not found in all of Darfur, only in its southern regions. It is known in Fur as "Thalub", and it is a tall tree.
