The first Imam in the city of Hani, under the rule of this region, was Al-Majmi', who was followed by the commander Ma' bin Turun, who ruled after him. When he returned from Timbuktu, he was appointed governor of Gao by Fari Bakr in the middle of the year 1000. He remained in that government for two full years and collected a great deal of wealth from its revenue, amounting to sixty thousand dinars in one year. Then Sultan Mulay Ahmad al-Dhahabi ordered him to come to Marrakech and appointed Qadi al-Dra'i as governor of that land. He took a great deal of gold with him, and the aforementioned Qadi remained in government for nine years. After the Sultan Mulay Ahmad divided the land of Sudan between himself and the commander Mansur bin Abd al-Rahman, Judar was appointed governor of the land and Mansur was appointed governor of the Hajj. Then the Sultan appointed Sayyid Mansur to govern it. He was dismissed from his position and when the Pasha Sulayman came, he returned the government to him. He ruled it twice, then dismissed him and appointed Ibn Barham al-Dra'i. Then he died, and the Arabs and the people of the Dammam appointed him, whose mother's name was Mulud. He was from the Zanj tribe and served them as a slave. Then the Pasha Sulayman appointed him governor of Timbuktu, and then appointed him governor of Gao. He ruled for twenty days. It is said that he died before dawn, and it is said that he was afflicted with the plague because he was a dark-skinned man of tall stature and stout body. The corrupt and unjust Ahmad al-Burj ruled until Pasha Khudanq came and dismissed him due to his excessive injustice and tyranny. Then Mansur al-Wam was appointed.
