Sayyid al-Hasan did not leave Sudan from the time his father appointed him as his representative in Sudan until his death on November 22, 1969 (22 Sha'ban 1390 AH). After the death of Sayyid al-Hasan, a number of members of the Mirghani family living outside Sudan contributed to the affairs of the Khatmiyya in Sudan. Among them was Muhammad Sir al-Khatm (d. 1970), known as Muhammad al-Mirghani, to distinguish him from his father. We have touched upon part of the life of Sayyid al-Hasan and his connection with the Turkish rulers in the second chapter of this study. When discussing the Egyptians, and the Khatmiyya and the Mahdiyya, we also mentioned the leadership of Muhammad Uthman (al-Aqrab), son of Sayyid al-Hasan, and his role in eastern Sudan until his death in Egypt, and his successor to the leadership of the Tariqa. Sayyid Ali bin Sayyid Muhammad Uthman bin Sayyid al-Hasan al-Mirghani succeeded Sayyid Muhammad Uthman (al-Aqrab) in leading the Khatmiyya. We clarified the circumstances of his leadership, his contributions, and his impact on political and social life in the country until the advent of independence and the establishment of national parties. We mentioned this in the third chapter of this study.
