The Sultan of Darfur, Ali Dinar, was a man of great ambition and courage. He was known for his military prowess and his ability to inspire his troops. He was also a shrewd politician, and he was able to maintain his independence from the Egyptian government for many years. In 1916, however, the British, who had taken control of Egypt, decided to annex Darfur. Dinar resisted, but he was eventually defeated and killed. His death marked the end of an era in Sudanese history.
