They had come to the Azande lands in search of food and shelter. The Azande, who were a warlike people, had no intention of sharing their land with the Dinka. They attacked the Dinka, and a fierce battle ensued. The Azande, who were armed with spears and bows and arrows, were victorious. The Dinka, who were armed with only their bare hands, were no match for the Azande. Many of the Dinka were killed, and the rest were driven back into the desert. The Azande, who had won a great victory, celebrated their triumph. They had defended their land, and they had driven back the invaders. They were a proud and warlike people, and they were determined to remain free.
