During one of my early visits — now many years ago — to the land of the Pharaohs, I made the ac-
quaintance of an English gentleman, who had devoted much time to the study of Egfyptology. Having only a superficial knowledge of the subject, I felt
rather at a loss to carry on a discussion my acquaint-
ance had commenced, as to the bearing of certain
recently discovered hieroglyphics upon various moot points in the records of ancient Egypt. By a happy
inspiration, I put a stop to the discussion by inquir-
