Ali Wad Saad, on the part of the Khaleefa, asked me what I thought of the army ; to which I replied, " You have numbers, but not training" — a reply which gave little satisfaction to the Khaleefa, who could overhear it without having to wait for Saad to repeat it to him. This was the last time upon which I saw the Khaleefa, but I live in hopes of seeing him once again.
