Instead of replying, he sent to Sheikh Madibbo, son of Ali, and to another of the Rizighat Arabs a letter which fell into my hands, in which he fiercely abused and reviled me. In it he wrote : "Do not imagine that I will cede this land to that rebellious pedlar ; rather am I preparing my troops in order to attack him and eject him from the country with great loss and ignominy."

On seeing this letter I wrote saying that I would not leave his country unless he made submission to the Khedive.

Meanwhile I wrote to the Governor General in Khartoum, Ismail Pasha Ayyub, informing him of what I have done and of my success over the Rizighat.
