THE EGYPTIAN SUDAN that curve round, their tips being parallel with his face and which is found in the Sudan, and he is lying down with his forelegs doubled back ; as the type and symbol of Amen or Amen-Ra he has a disk upon his head. Between his forelegs stands a small figure of the king who dedicated the figure to the god Amen, and to himself. On the four sides of the base are inscriptions which read : RED GRANITE LION MADE BY AMEN-HETEP III., AND USURPED BY THE NUBIAN KING AMEN-ASRU.

The Lions were brought from Gebel Barkal and presented to the British Museum by-Lord Prudhoe in 1835.
