J. W. Crowfoot, Inspector of Education in the Sudan, and they would have been carried out by him in the winter of 1904-05, but for his departure with me to make excavations on ancient sites in the country of the Cataracts further to the south. Scott- Moncrieff, of the British Museum, being in charge of the work. By means of a grant made b}' Mr. Crowfoot and sanctioned by Sir Reginald Wingate, Mr. Scott-Moncrieff was enabled to clear out a small vaulted mud-brick building which lies a little to the north of the temple of Thothmes II. and Thothmes III., and in it he found some sepulchral stelae of the Xllth or XII Ith Dynasty, and a figure of Sebek-em-heb, of very fine work and finish, and belonging to the same period as the stelae.
