THE EGYPTIAIS SUDAN " Black," or " Negro " ; therefore this king's name means " the Negro of Ra." It is quite certain that he was a king of foreign extraction, for the sign | stands after his name, and as he is styled in an inscription at Tanis, " the Royal son Nehsi," it is probable that he was in reality a black man, and a son of one of the kings of Egypt who led expeditions into the Sudan, and that he had by some means established himself, by virtue of his descent, on the throne of Egypt.'

Of the history of the Sudan under the XlVth Dynasty we know nothing.
