F. A. Brockhaus Esq.

34. de, Nnn Garden May 27: 1890 My dear Friend.

A number of Germans, and Austrians write to me in the course of a week. but unfortunately they write to me in their own language - which I to my sorrow, he & said do not know a word. Then I am married to a certain fair lady - I shall be hottreable to abrociate their inclination for she is almost as great a linguist as Eum. until then I must content with dropping German effusions into the waste basket. Ignorant whether they are blessings or curals. For I really am overwhelmed by the burdens of letters received daily, and the hosts of callers. The book - thank God-yes-is off my hands. and I would be willing to pay a round sum for the privilege of a long sleep. which I think I deserve. I need absolute rest. for since the day I started into Africa for Eum. I have not enjoyed that sweet balm to tired bodies which I should clearly like to obtain. I hope my dearly beloved is a person of vigorous disposition - will bear me away with her to the regions of drowsy felicity - where the married are said to be at rest.
