This miniature, known as "The Prayer in the Garden," originally part of the Ainur manuscript, depicts the story of the Apostle John, whom a Roman emperor tried to show him disciples of suspicious cities. John refused, and disappeared, but after one year, he returned in the guise of a young man, and provoked these women to lewdness. As they were preparing to meet him, John revealed himself, and then ordered them to lie on the bed. Then, having been restored to a state of innocence, they continued to live in chastity.
