The following list of kings was given me by Mtesa himself, but whether the different sovereigns are distinct persons or not is a very doubtful matter ; many of the names being probably those of the same person, for it is the custom of the kings of Uganda to take additional names on their accession or in remembrance of any great event. Thus Suna, Mtesa's father, had four names, and Mtesa himself has six. And this supposition is made more probable from the fact that the Waganda have mentioned to me other names of kings than those given in Mtesa's list. The kings, arranged chronologically are : Ham or Kintu, Chwa Kalemela, Kimela, Eumaansi, Tembo, Kigala, Wampamba, Kaima, Nachibinge, Mrondo, Sekamanya, Jemba, Suna I., Chimbugwe, Katarega, Mtebe, Juko, Kaemba, Tibandeke, Ndaula, Kagiira, Chikurwe, Mawaanda, Msanje, Namgaba, Chabagu, Junju, Wasaja, Kamanya, Suna II., Mtesa.

Besides these names I have had Semakokilo and Sematimba given me as kings of Uganda.
