There were some curious cases. One man in the Heavies had received a bullet in the back of his neck, and it was cut out under his tongue ! Another man in my company, Coyne, was saved by his knife, which turned off into his flanks a bullet which must have otherwise broken his thigh. Both these men had already begun to struggle about, and were on the high-road to recovery. There were numbers of similar cases with which the doctors were much pleased : they attributed the rapid cures to the dry air.
