PREFACE.
IN presenting the following pages to the public, I feel
that a certain apology is due, for it is now over
three years since the Nile Expedition took place
(and most people have forgotten all about it), and
several accounts of it, infinitely better and fuller than
mine, have been published. To tell the truth, my story was about to see
the light two years ago, and it was only owing to
circumstances over which I had not much control
that its appearance has been delayed till now.
Another thing, this book does not profess to be
anything more than what its title proclaims it to
be, namely, a record of what the Camel Corps, and
