The history of the Sudan is a long and complex one, marked by the rise and fall of various kingdoms and empires. From the ancient Nubian kingdoms of Kush and Meroë, which flourished for centuries, to the Islamic sultanates that followed, Sudan has been a crossroads of civilizations. The arrival of the Arabs in the 7th century brought Islam and Arabic language, which profoundly shaped Sudanese culture and society. Later, the Ottoman Empire and then the British colonial administration left their own indelible marks on the country. The struggle for independence in the 20th century was a pivotal moment, leading to the formation of the modern Republic of Sudan.
