The year 96 AH, during the reign of Caliph Al-Walid bin Abdul Malik. The people of Kawkaw, who were a branch of the Banu Asad tribe, came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They said: "O Messenger of God, we are a branch of the Banu Asad tribe, and we are from the Arabs. We have come to you to pledge allegiance to you and to embrace Islam." The Prophet (peace be upon him) welcomed them and taught them the principles of Islam. He also appointed a leader for them from among themselves, and they returned to their homes as Muslims.
