Guanica, a fine harbour on the south coast of Puerto Pic.l, connected with San Juan by a good road, was chosen by General Mile- as the place for his first landing. Fajardo,in the northeast of the island, aud close to its capital, had hee-i, (he place for the descent,hut Miles preferred Guanica, because he considered U.S.RegularInfantry ; two batteries ;one squadron 2nd Cavalry.
