the life of the people and their common beliefs. Among the first points that strike one are the universal use of the technical Sufi terminology, the disproportionate number of incidents and anecdotes

that relate to divorce and remarriage 1, the v^^ealth possessed by many of the holy men, and the obvious survivals that are in evidence of a

matrilinear system^.
