The grandson of Emperor Lij Iyasu from his daughter "Afqu" who came to Sudan after the Italian invasion of Abyssinia. His maternal grandmother told him that his grandfather Lij Iyasu was a Muslim. Hassan Abdel Rahim Al-Tayeb, previous reference, states that Iyasu was poisoned by Emperor Haile Selassie himself, and that Iyasu addressed Haile Selassie when he felt the poison spreading in his body, saying, "If the earth calls you, O Tafari, then the pure heaven calls me."
