Previous Studies: Despite the abundance of writings and references in English about the period of Italian occupation and the liberation campaign, most of which were memoirs of British officers who participated in the war, all these writings made the same mistake by omitting and marginalizing any mention of Sudan's role, its efforts, and the sacrifices of its soldiers during the liberation war. Although there were scattered and few references in some Ethiopian studies and writings, I did not find any Ethiopian research or study that focused or was limited to this subject.

As for Sudanese writings, a number of officers of the Sudan Defence Force recorded their memoirs of the war. However, most of these memoirs, which were not printed, were kept by the Military Research Department, and I found no trace of them despite my diligent search for them. Among the most important previous studies: Sudan Defence Force, its role and participation, Second Edition, 1990. Its author is a pilot colonel in the Sudanese army, and it is a book that chronicles the Sudan Defence Force, its confrontation of the Italian attack, and its participation in the battles of East Africa and North Africa during the Second World War and its effects on the political and economic aspects.
