The financial situation of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has worsened considerably compared to previous years, and its revenues have decreased. Subscriptions have fallen due to financial hardship, and some subscribers have left the country. The society is threatened with closure until the deficit is covered. However, expenses have decreased because the society did not use the fodder it bought due to the decrease in the number of animals it treated. Subscriptions for the Cairo branch are still not going well, as are the donations from wealthy visitors to the country in winter. The police seized 78 animals, which were examined at the society's hospital in Cairo. 16 of them were treated and released, and 110 were treated and placed under observation. 174 animals were released outside the hospital, either due to the lack of necessary facilities or because their owners were Europeans who did not permit their animals to be kept without permission, or because they were unfit for work. The society has branches in Aswan, Qena, Luxor, Minya, Beni Suef, Girga, Giza, Tanta, Mansoura, Benha, Shibin El Kom, Zagazig, and Port Said, and an independent branch in Alexandria. A new branch was established in Giza, and the director of Giza intends to establish a branch in Damanhur this year if the necessary funds are available. In general, the branch societies are progressing successfully, and the notables of the country are contributing with their support.
Hospitals The number of patients in government hospitals reached 5,000, compared to 4,000 in the previous year. The treatment in hospitals throughout the country continues to increase, and the demand for them is steadily growing.
