The increase in the number of taverns is due to the opening of new ones in the European quarters of Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said, Ismailia, and Dues, where the current law does not require a license. In other parts of Egypt, where the law requires a license for taverns for Egyptian subjects, the number of licensed taverns decreased. In Alexandria, there were 4 licensed taverns for foreigners compared to 110 in the previous year.

Regarding hashish, the authorities responsible for preventing its entry into Egypt seized 150 kilograms in 1907, compared to 175 kilograms in the previous year. The price of hashish during the past year ranged between 10 and 100 francs per kilogram. In the previous year, the court ordered the confiscation of 117 packages of hashish belonging to Egyptian subjects, compared to 144 packages in the year before that.

Despite the efforts of the coast guard, customs, and police, large quantities of hashish continue to enter Egypt. Smugglers have changed their methods, preferring to transport small quantities in individual loads rather than large shipments. This has led to an increase in seizures. Hashish is also being smuggled in small quantities hidden in the clothing and luggage of passengers arriving by ship in Alexandria and Port Said.

In the past four years, the number of people admitted to mental hospitals has decreased. This is attributed to the excessive use of hashish, which has led to mental illness. Only 466 individuals were admitted to these hospitals in the past year.

Gambling: In Cairo, there were 5 gambling establishments in 1907, with 2 more opening later. Seven of these establishments were closed by the police. The police raided two of these establishments and confiscated gambling paraphernalia and money.
