The municipality's revenues amounted to £E 1107 in the year 1904, an increase of £E 1107 over the year 1903, and expenditures amounted to £E 1454. The net increase in the year's revenues over its expenditures was £E 545.

The most important projects currently before the council are the city's drainage systems. A team of qualified engineers has been appointed and has begun preliminary work. They will soon present a plan to the council members.

It was intended to fund this work by selling municipal lands, but the financial situation prevents their sale at present. Therefore, it may be difficult to secure the necessary funds to complete this work.

There is no doubt that the municipality has undertaken great work for the benefit of Alexandria. The city owes a great debt to the council members, as they are men of many occupations, but they dedicate a portion of their time to overseeing the administration of its affairs.

Liquor (40) Last year's report contained extensive discussion on the current laws pertaining to this important matter. It stated that the current system of foreign concessions prevents any significant amendment to the laws governing the import, manufacture, and sale of alcoholic beverages. This is a hindrance to effectively addressing the vices of drinking and gambling as it should be. If this system is not changed significantly, then no substantial progress is to be expected in these matters.
