Some have opined that the problem of the rising groundwater level in areas with insufficient drainage is due to the high water table. The Agricultural Society has appointed a committee of experts to study this important issue in its entirety.
(2) The Aswan Dam The reservoir was filled in 1902 and emptied in 1903. In January 1903, they began to open the sluices to increase the flow of the Nile, emptying the reservoir by the beginning of August. It is not unknown that emptying the reservoir in a way that yields the greatest benefit and best results requires great care and precise calculation. The success achieved in managing the water, despite the severity of the flood, is due to the skill and competence of the engineers responsible for the Aswan Dam, which was necessary for irrigation in that year.
Guards (55) The following table shows the number of men employed in guarding the banks of the Nile during the flood.
Upper Egypt 1018 For one hundred days Lower Egypt 100 Men Total 1118 The period of guarding was set at one hundred days for ease of comparison with previous reports, but in reality, it was much less than that. In Lower Egypt, most of the men were employed in the Giza Governorate. As for those who requested guards for the Delta, on the Rosetta and Damietta branches, there were only 15 men who guarded for fifteen days, a small number compared to previous years, even if the flood was moderate. A number of people were employed in the Fayoum Governorate to guard the "hawsh," a traditional practice, but it is still prone to misuse and has not yet been regulated. However, the number of men employed in this capacity was two per hundred of the total number of guards.
