And by these means, the Nile barrages provide a very large amount of protection. But this is not the only benefit that comes from shortening the duration of high levels. In a high flood, it often happens that the water in the Delta rises to a level higher than the agricultural land on its sides, by four to five meters. This causes damage to the agriculture on its sides for a distance of about a mile, due to the flood. Therefore, one of the benefits of the White Nile reservoir will also be the improvement of navigation in the Delta. In fact, one of the oldest projects proposed for the construction of a reservoir on the White Nile was a project submitted as a means to improve navigation in the Delta.
And from the calculations of the capacity of the reservoir, the following table is extracted from the calculation of the discharge of the White and Blue Nile in the year of the reservoir. The aforementioned indicates the actual impact that this reservoir would have had on the levels and discharge of the main Nile if it had existed in the year of the flood, which is considered one of the highest in recent years.

The flood of that year was the highest flood of all. However, the dam was limited to taking measurements, and nothing was done about the discharge amounts in that year. Nevertheless, the method of calculating the potential discharge of the river and the impact of the reservoir in the mentioned year has been fully demonstrated.
Reservoir of Aswan It is known that the natural inflow of the Nile in the summer is not enough for the needs of agriculture in Egypt. With it, 1000 million cubic meters of water from the flood surplus could be stored for use in the following summer. In the year 1919, and in the year 1924, the capacity of this reservoir was doubled. However, the increase in inflow due to the raising of the dam was not fully utilized, and there remained a shortage of water.
Although this quantity is less than the theoretical amount of annual inflow required for the maturation of its crops without [illegible] cubic meters, this mentioned year is the first time such a thing has happened. Its flood was the lowest since the beginning of the eighteenth century, and both the spring and summer inflows were also very low. The actual needs of the country were demonstrated by the data extracted from the flood of 1914-1918 and its water inflows in Chapter One, page [number]. The information extracted from this table is similar to that in Chapter Three of Book Two.
The water required for the cultivation of summer crops is not included in this amount.
