Egyptian Sudan 92 The Pharaohs' Era We have nothing from the historians of this era that tells us about the agricultural area of Egypt or its revenue. However, Arab historians remedied this deficiency, but the magnitude of the sums and areas they mentioned suggests that they were exaggerated. This is what they said, estimated in Egyptian pounds: Author | Revenue in Egyptian Pounds ------- | --------Al-Qara'ana | 56,000,000 Ibn Khordadbeh | 14,760,000 Yusuf bin Ya'qub | 16,800,000 Abu Saleh | 43,200,000 Ibn Wasif Shah | 58,200,000 Manqous | 6,000,000 Pharaoh Musa | 60,000,000 Al-Rayan bin Al-Walid | 60,000,000 Kaikaus | 60,000,000 Abu Al-Mahasin, Al-Masudi, and Ibn Iyas | In Feddans Cultivated Land But I saw, based on evidence I explained in my memorandum, that the population of Egypt during the era of the Pharaohs was 18 million or likely 20 million, and that the cultivated area was 6 million feddans. Some historians also mentioned the percentage according to which the land tax was collected, even if they did not mention the tax itself. If we consider this percentage along with the produce of the country during that era, the land tax should be as follows, according to these authors: Author | Percentage of Cultivated Land | Land Tax in Egyptian Pounds per Feddan in Qirsh ------- | -------- | --------Aspio and Lubruzo | 10 percent | 6,000,000 | 2,100,000 Haram'an | 35 | 6,000,000 | 4,200,000 70 | | |
