What has been agreed upon so far is approximately 100,000 EGP, and we expect its completion this year, with a total expenditure of 125,000 EGP. Work on the Bulak Bridge was also much more than anticipated. The construction of the piers and abutments of the large bridge has been completed, but the supporting walls have not yet been started. Since they require deep foundations to be dug under compressed air, a process that takes several months, the bridge cannot be opened to the public for at least a year. As for the small bridge over the Blind Sea, progress there is commensurate with the progress on the large bridge. Since the current at the Bulak Bridge is strong during the flood season, they fear its intensity will affect navigation once the bridge is completed. Therefore, they are now waiting to replace the English Bridge with a new one that opens and closes, and to divert navigation to the Blind Sea. A sandbar formed over the Rawda Bridge, obstructing navigation and requiring extensive dredging with barges, despite the cost. During the year, the necessary electrical current reductions for the electric motors that operate the movable arches of the Rawda Bridge were completed, and their operation is proceeding smoothly. The Electricity Department has now been divided, and a new section has been established within the Ministry of Interior to consider matters of municipal councils. The government has paid attention to the danger that the public might be exposed to from electrical equipment in cinemas. Its inspectors checked 45 such establishments last year. The Engineering Department: The Engineering Department has registered 339 steam engines and issued 676 new licenses for steam engines. The government's land-based machinery is currently on display under the supervision of this department. It would be very beneficial to expand its scope of supervision to include ships and barges that navigate at night, as there is an urgent need to enact a law to monitor navigation in the interest of the public.
