- 47 -This is due to the usual or unusual hostility, and the appropriations for new works are less than the expenses actually incurred in the last year by approximately 30,700 EGP. This result was only achieved by a significant reduction in departmental demands and approval only for essential projects that must be implemented. This is a statement of all appropriations for new works: EGP 1,428,197 Public Works 443,000 Railways 77,475 Domains 73,025 Finance 63,200 Interior 57,925 Ports 38,985 Public Health 17,690 Telegraphs 1,671 Agriculture 15,785 Liberty 29,738 Other Departments (6,226,361) Total The works in the statement of the Ministry of Public Works include drainage and irrigation projects in the Fayoum and Middle Gharbia, which are currently proceeding rapidly and account for 30,600 EGP of the year's total appropriations. 900 EGP have been allocated for other irrigation and drainage works, 139,000 EGP for the construction of government buildings, and 17,500 EGP for the continuation of work on the Cairo canals. The appropriations for railways include the completion of the line between Zagazig and Zifta, the continuation of work on the line between Kafr El Zayat and Menouf, and the new Abrahimieh Canal bridge in Assiut. Work will continue on the Imbaba Bridge over the Nile, and construction of the new station in Alexandria will commence, as well as the new Eye Bridge in Cairo. The appropriations have been made to reinforce the dams.
