Its sweetness surpasses all sweetness, and its pits are extremely small. The people of this city cultivate cotton, cumin, caraway, and henna. From here, these goods are sent to all parts of the Maghreb and elsewhere. Its gardens are beautiful, but in our time, the infidels have destroyed and burned most of them. The people of Sijilmasa eat dogs and an animal called "Yahrudun," which they call "Afzim" in the Berber language. Their women use it for fatness and corpulence, which is why they are extremely plump and fleshy. Few of its people have clear eyes; rather, most are bleary-eyed. From the city of Sijilmasa to the city of Aghmat and Rika is about 8 stages. From the city of Sijilmasa to the city of Draa is 3 stages. Draa is not a city surrounded by a wall or fortification; rather, it consists of connected villages, close-lying buildings, and many farms. In this area, camels and various Berber tribes inhabit it. It is situated on the Sijilmasa River, which flows down to them, and on its banks, they cultivate henna, cumin, caraway, and indigo. The henna plant grows so large there that it resembles a tree, and they climb it. From it, its seeds are taken and prepared for all regions. The seeds of the henna plant are only taken from this region; they are not taken from other regions. As for the indigo grown in Draa, its quality is not good there, but it is traded in the lands of the Maghreb because of its cheapness. Sometimes it is mixed with other good indigo and sold along with it. From the land of Draa to the farthest lands of Sous is 4 days. Its city is Taroudant. The lands of Sous have many villages and connected buildings. They have various excellent fruits and many types, such as walnuts, figs, and grapes.
