Al-Jazira is the first city that was conquered at that time, and in it is a mosque called Masjid al-Rayat. It is said that the banners gathered there upon their arrival from Jabal Tariq. It was named Jabal Tariq because Abdullah bin Wunmu'a al-Zadati, when he crossed with his Berbers over this mountain, felt that the Arabs did not trust him, so he wanted to disassociate himself from them. He ordered the burning of the boats he had crossed in, thus disassociating himself from them. Between this mountain and Al-Jazira al-Khadra are six miles. It is a mountain isolated from other mountains, circular in shape. At its base, facing the sea, are caves with flowing water. Near it is a harbor known as Marsa al-Shajara. From Al-Jazira al-Khadra to the city of Ishbiliya is five days. Similarly, from Al-Jazira al-Khadra to the city of Malaga is five easy stages, which is one hundred miles. From Al-Jazira al-Khadra to the city of Ishbiliya, there are two routes: one by water and one by land. As for the water route, it is from Al-Jazira al-Khadra to the sands in the sea, to the location of the river of Barbata, eighty-eight miles. Then to the location of the river of Bakka, six miles. Then to the place called Shanta Bitra, ten miles. Then to the marshes opposite the island of Mads, twelve miles. Between them is a crossing of six miles. From the marshes, you ascend the river to Rabita Rawdat Damaniyah, four miles. Then to Al-Masajid, six miles. Then to Marsa Shurhushana, to Al-Adouf, to Mabtur, to Fitlal, and Binnur, and Mihal, two days in the middle of the river. Then to the island of Binshtald, then to the fortress of Al-Raa'ir, then to the city of Ishbiliya. So, from Ishbiliya to the sea is sixty miles. As for the land route, the route is from Al-Jazira to Al-Rutayd, then to the river of Barbata, then to the village of Fisanah, where the lodging is. It is a large village with a strong wall, inhabited by many people. From there to the city of Ibn al-Sulaym, then to Jabal Munt.
