The northern coast of that island, which is now a ruin, and Alexandria Mand near Yaru Badisus on the Khawass River, and Mason discovered its ruins in 180 AD.

Now in Greece. Alexandria of India is also at the confluence of the Indus and Shanab and is now known as Boh or Yatan, and Alexandria Asfad, known as Alexandria Iskhata, meaning the distant one. Alexander built it in Sukeynia on the Yaksarni River and it is now known as Khujand. Yaqut Samarwand said, and Alexandria Shushana at the mouth of the Tigris River. And Alexandria of Troas, the city of Troy in Asia Minor, and it is known as Iskistanbul to Old Istanbul. As for Greater Alexandria, it is a famous city in Egypt and the greatest of the Egyptian cities. It is located on the Mediterranean Sea, about 15 miles from Cairo to the northwest.

At 31 degrees, 11 minutes, and 2 seconds of northern latitude, and 29 degrees of eastern longitude. It is situated on a tongue of land between the Roman Sea and Lake Mareotis, now called Boros. And they differed on when Alexandria was first founded. Yaqut said, "Some went to it, to Alexandria of the Pillars, the like of which was not created in the lands." It is narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he said, "The best of cities is Alexandria." It is said that Alexander and Arman, his brother, each built a city in the land of Egypt and named it after himself. When Alexander finished his city, he said, "I have built a city for God, poor, and for the people, rich." So it remained in its beauty and splendor until today. And Arman said, "I have built a city for God, rich, and for the people, poor." So its light disappeared, and some of it is demolished. And God sent sand upon it, so its waters dried up and its trace disappeared.

And Al-Maqrizi said, "The first to be built, Alexandria, was before the Flood, in the time of Misraim son of Bezer, son of Luv. It was then called the city of Raqada. Then it was built twice more. One was in the days of the Ptolemies, and the other was built by Alexander son of Philip the Macedonian. And other accounts of its construction are mentioned, which are not necessary to mention due to their length and lack of corroboration. The reliable historians have agreed that Alexander built it after conquering the lands and besieging the city of Tyre in 332 BC. and took control of the land of Egypt, and named it after himself. And the one entrusted by Alexander to build it was "Dinocrates" or "Deinokharis," and he built it well. He established two wide markets within it, each one hundred cubits wide. One of them runs from north to south, from the Canopic Gate to the Bab Skardabul Gate, and the other runs from east to west, from the Gate overlooking the lake to the Moon Gate, which is located on the Great Reef. The length of the first was more than three parasangs, and the second was two-thirds of that.
