He journeyed across God's vast land, enduring hunger and hardship. He suffered tribulations that were unbearable. He said about himself: "I used to wish that God Almighty would relieve me of these hardships and save me from the distress and humiliation I was experiencing. I would strive to earn a living as much as needed. I would go for a day or two without tasting sleep or food, walking on foot. The land was my bed and the water was my covering. It happened that I was traveling on a ship, seeking a livelihood across God's vast land. A strong wind arose, the waves rose and churned, and the sea became turbulent. We clung to the decks, which broke, and everyone on board drowned. My companions abandoned me and climbed onto some nearby islands, and I was left to the mercy of the waves, struggling.
