To my master, my lord, and my protector, the great and exalted, Ali Ismail II, This is, my lord, information and observations from one of your subjects in Sudan, more than thirty years ago. I was a prisoner, and I saw all kinds of prosperity and well-being during the period I spent in those regions. This was more than thirty years before the arrival of the Egyptians. Therefore, I saw fit to collect them between the covers of this book, which I have named "Sudan: A Service and a Result Between the Hands of Gordon and Kitchener," because its meaning is a service to this country. So, accept, my lord, this service performed by your humble servant, who is one of your subjects, and who is honored by his loyalty and servitude to you. (Ibrahim Fawzi)
