The battle of El-Obeid took place in the month of Dhu al-Hijjah in the year 1296 AH. The Sharif Muhammad Ahmad, who was then in Abba Island, received news of the arrival of the Egyptian army under the command of Mustafa Pasha Yawer. The officers were complaining about the government, which Mustafa Pasha Yawer, the commander of the cavalry, had been appointed to. The Dervishes, numbering about six thousand, attacked the ranks of the enemy. The Sharif Muhammad Ahmad, the preacher of Tripoli, and Hassan Khalifa, the preacher of Upper Egypt, and Sharif Muhammad, the leader of the Dervishes, were defeated and scattered. Only one of the regular soldiers, an officer named Ahmad Effendi Salman, was wounded in the chest by a bullet.
