They set a date for it, and the Arabs went to their homes. On Monday, the army commander, may God grant him victory with his allies, set out from Madina. He gathered his cavalry and sent his Arabs with reinforcements. He called out to the people to take up arms, then he brought them together the next morning. When dawn broke, his Arabs, armed and ready, confronted them. The people were given provisions, and we united as one man to repel the enemy. The battle intensified, and the Arab cavalry surrounded the two sides. The Caliph, may God strengthen him, arrived with his army, and the scent of victory was confirmed by his announcement. The enemy's defeat was swift, as if it were a blink of an eye. The hypocrites turned and fled, abandoning their families and their vast wealth. Their women and children were taken captive. The Commander of the Muslims, may God strengthen him, wept at the sight of the spoils. He ordered the confiscation of the property of the traitors and the return of everything that had been taken from the Muslims. His allies returned to obedience and surrounded his victorious camp, like a necklace around the necks of their enemies. Those who had plotted against him were met with disappointment and regret. The news of this victory spread that day, and fear and panic gripped the enemy.
