He established the tribes, brought in wealth, generously endowed the waqfs, and appointed stipends. He laid out the curricula and selected for teaching in it the most knowledgeable, learned, and renowned jurist, the late Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Ahmad al-Sharif al-Husayni. This was accomplished according to the proposal and to the highest aspirations. On the fifth of Safar, the teaching commenced, and he, may God strengthen him, attended. It was a memorable day. May God reward him generously and fill his record with good deeds, and may he attain his desires and wishes in this world and the hereafter. I attended the night of the Prophet's birthday, upon whom be the best prayers and peace. The celebration was responsive to its innovations, and what was recited from the poetry of our master the Caliph, may God strengthen him, praising the intercessor of the best of messengers, peace be upon him, was heard: "We loved the swords and became accustomed to them. And how many hearts yearned for them. Until gray hair appeared on my temples. And my horse's mane became white. So the gray hair awakened me from my heedlessness. And I gained a lesson from my speech. And my youth was spent in it. While my complexion became golden. So console me for the sins that have passed. Which I committed in my youth. And how many times I blamed myself, but it did not cease. And I admonished my heart, but it did not accept. And how much I cried for the sins I committed. And I warned my heart, but it refused."
