Sometimes the whole body was covered with black spots like partridgeshot ; such patients always fell victims to the disorder, and those who felt the blow internally, showing no external disfiguration, seldom survived more than a few hours.

The plague appears to visit this country about once in every twenty years " : the last visitation was in 1799 and 1800, being more fatal than any ever before known.
