The Hashemite Banner

The glorified Hashemite banner symbolizes the Hashemites and the Great Arab Revolt in its legitimate, historical, religious, and Arab dimensions. It has been the banner of the Hashemites for centuries, first raised by Sharif Abi Numay in 1515 AD in its dark red color and shape, and also raised by Prince Abdullah when he headed to Amman in 1920 AD, leading the prince and his soldiers. It is also the banner of the Great Arab Revolt led by Sharif Hussein bin Ali, which later adopted an official flag for the revolt.

The handover of the Hashemite banner to the Arab Army is a message to the nation, to generations, and to all of humanity, embodying religion, identity, peace, love, tolerance, justice, noble character, and coexistence.

Components of the Hashemite Banner and Their Meanings

The Shahada (There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah): A symbol of monotheism and mercy.

The Basmala within the Seven-Pointed Star: The Basmala is the beginning of everything. The seven-pointed star refers to the Seven Oft-Repeated Verses, the verses of Surat Al-Fatiha in the Holy Quran. On another note, it is a symbol of the seven heavens and a symbol of Hashemite sovereignty.

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds: An expression of praise and gratitude to Almighty Allah, used at the end of any work.

Dark Red Color: The color of the Hashemite banner, symbolizing redemption and sacrifice.
