The year 1822 saw the arrival of the Egyptian army in Sudan. The army, under the command of Ismail Pasha, son of Muhammad Ali Pasha, was tasked with conquering the country and bringing it under Egyptian rule. The campaign was met with fierce resistance from the various Sudanese tribes, particularly the Sha'iqiyya, who were known for their bravery and horsemanship. Despite the challenges, the Egyptian army eventually succeeded in subduing the country, marking the beginning of a new era in Sudanese history.
