(1) The Committee checked and passed the language list. There are only two languages concerned—Dinka and Nuer. They do not extend beyond the Sudan.
Dinka.—As regards dialects the followimg are some of the Dinka dialects, but the list is not complete as it does not include the Northern and Donjol Dinka.

Nuer.—There are two main dialects, but differences are very slight. Atwot is a Nuer dialect, but some sections of the Atwot tribe have adopted Dinka as their vernacular.
(2) The Committee were unanimously of opinion that the differences between Dinka and Nuer were so great that there could be no question of combination ; and that as each served a large tribe they must
both be retained as literary languages.
The Committee discussed the question of dialects as affecting text-books, etc., and made the following recommendations :—
(a) That in order to pool resources each Mission should not attempt to translate all the text-books which would be necessary into its own dialect, but that such translations might be distributed among the various Missions, each taking one or two books. The result would then be pooled for use in each Mission. The position would therefore be that in each Mission Station text-books in perhaps more than one dialect would be in use. This would tend
